During the restoration and revitalization journey of the National Historical Site of the Central Bureau of South Vietnam Base, one technology emerged as a groundbreaking highlight, captivating attention and offering a completely distinct experience for visitors: 3D Mapping Projection. This is not merely a technical upgrade but a revolution in historical storytelling, making past events more vivid and authentic than ever before.
Decoding 3D Mapping Technology at the Historical Site
3D Mapping, also known as projection mapping, is a technique using high-power projectors to cast images or videos onto non-flat surfaces, transforming them into unique display canvases. At the Central Bureau of South Vietnam Base, this technology is applied with sophistication and creativity in the central projection room, the heart of the digital technology exhibition area.
Instead of a conventional flat screen, FPT, through its akaVerse solution, designed a complex projection system :
- Curved Panorama Screen: A large curved wall serves as the main screen, creating an immersive visual effect that makes viewers feel enveloped in the recreated historical space.
- Interactive Static Model: In front of the curved screen lies a static model (diorama) simulating the terrain of the base area. The unique aspect is that the 3D mapping technology projects light effects and moving images not only onto the curved screen but also directly onto this static model. This combination creates a unique multi-layered presentation, offering both a comprehensive overview on the large screen and detailed developments on the physical model.
akaVerse: “Directing” Vivid Historical Films
FPT’s akaVerse solution plays a pivotal role in implementing and operating this 3D Mapping system. Using sophisticated projection techniques, akaVerse has “directed” exceptional documentary films and graphics, transforming them into heroic, emotionally charged stories.
3D Mapping technology is utilized to:
- Recreate Historical Battles: One of the most impressive applications is the authentic recreation of the 1967 Junction City sweep operation. The scale of the battle, the movement of troops, the intensity of bombing, and the courageous fighting spirit of our army and people are vividly projected onto both the panorama screen and the interactive model, helping viewers clearly visualize one of the greatest challenges the Base ever faced.
- Provide Deep Historical Interpretation: This technology not only recreates events but also visually interprets the “Formation process, location, role, meaning, and importance of the Central Bureau of South Vietnam Base”. Dynamic maps and skillfully integrated archival images help viewers better understand the context of its establishment, its strategic location, and its central role in leading the revolution in the South throughout the resistance war.
- Create an “Emotional Time Travel Journey”: Three distinctive documentary films were specifically developed for this projection space, promising an immersive experience that touches viewers’ emotions, helping them connect more deeply with the past.
Impact of 3D Mapping on the Visitor Experience
The application of 3D Mapping has truly elevated the experience at the historical site:
- Engaging and Captivating: Modern projection technology, vivid visual effects, and dynamic sound create exceptional appeal, capturing the attention of all age groups, especially the younger generation.
- Intuitive and Understandable: Complex historical events and concepts become easier to visualize and grasp through direct, lively imagery.
- Evokes Emotion: Beyond providing information, the 3D Mapping technology, with its investment in content and form, successfully evokes pride, emotion, and gratitude towards the previous generations.
The 3D Mapping technology at the Central Bureau of South Vietnam Base, implemented by FPT and akaVerse, stands as powerful proof that technology can be a potent tool for historical storytelling, helping heritage live on and continue to inspire future generations.
